You should apply a minimum of 2 weeks prior to your class start date. If you are in need of the F1 visa you should apply to the school with enough time for the visa process, approximately eight weeks. If you are transferring from another institution you can apply up to two weeks before classes begin. You must report to Latitude Language one week before classes begin.

The most common visa that permits full-time study is the student (F1) visa. Other visas, such as tourist (B1, B2, or visa waiver) may permit part-time study. Contact us for more information on study allowances or restrictions for other types of visas.  

VISA WAIVER PROGRAM (NO VISA NEEDED) 

Members of particular countries are permitted to enter the United States on the Visa Waiver Program. Countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program are listed below. If you are a national of one of these countries, and you satisfy the three requirements below, you are permitted to enter the country without a visa: 

Your core intention is to be a tourist. 

You will participate in an English program that is less than 18 hours of class per week. 

Your stay in the US will not exceed 90 days. 

Visa Waiver Program – Member Countries : 

If you are NOT a national of one of these nations you do not qualify for a visa waiver. In addition, please be advised that if your core intention is to study full-time in the U.S., you should apply for an F1 student visa. 

Specific details regarding the Visa Waiver Program are available on the U.S. Department of State Website or at your closest Consulate or U.S. Embassy. 

Yes, in many cases. It depends on the type of visa you currently have and any restrictions placed on your visa. Tourist visa holders (with the exception of visa waivers) generally are permitted to change their visa to F1 in the U.S. J1 visa holders may or may not be able to change, depending on restrictions placed on the visa in the passport. It is important to note that on average it takes 3-4 months to approve a visa change of status request, and if approved, the student may not leave the U.S. and return on the same student visa at any point during their study. If they must leave the U.S. for any reason, they must generally return to their home country and interview for the F1 visa. In any case, the application process to change a visa status is generally the same as applying outside the U.S., including cost. Applicants may or may not be permitted to study on a part-time basis while they wait, depending on their original visa status.

On the F1 student visa you are required to maintain a full course of study by maintaining at least 80% overall attendance in all classes. You are also required to maintain academic good standing by maintaining a cumulative grade of at least 70% in all of their classes. Failing to maintain status means you may be put on probation and receive a warning from Latitude Language’s Designated School Official(s) DSO. After two warnings, you may be in danger of termination. If your I20 must be updated to a terminated status you must stop attending school immediately and depart the U.S. within 15 days. I20s in a terminated status may be eligible to transfer to another F1 certified school and apply for reinstatement of status. 

Apply to Latitude Language with the following documents:

• Completed/signed transfer-in form
• Completed Application and fee
• Copy of passport
• Copy of current F1 visa and I-94 stamp/form
• Copy of current I-20 form
• Copy of bank statement or bank letter (issued within last 90 days) showing full tuition costs + $500 per month of intended study for accommodation/living costs.

If your bank statement/letter is not in your name, you will also need to submit a completed Latitude Language sponsor form.

For applicants traveling with dependents, the additional documents need to be submitted:

• Completed Dependent Form for each dependent
• Copy of each dependent’s passport (+ proof of relationship)
• An additional $2000/dependent per year of intended study on bank statement/letter

Tuition payment:

• Deposit to be paid at the time of booking ($650 tuition deposit)
• Register for class
• Take the placement test and complete orientation

Tuition

After Latitude Language issues the Form I-20, if you are unable to attend for any reason other than visa denial, you must notify Latitude Language in writing at least 30 days before the class start date listed on your I-20 to receive a tuition or tuition deposit refund. If Latitude Language is not notified, in writing, at least 30 days before their class start date, no refund will be made. If the visa is denied, you are eligible for a full tuition deposit refund minus any bank or credit card transfer fees. Tuition will not be refunded to those who withdraw from their studies after their class begins. Application, English Placement Test and I-901 fees are non-refundable.

For F1 visa holders:  Your I-20 Form and welcome letter indicate your program start date; you should plan to enter the U.S. no more than 30 days before this date. If you come sooner than 30 days, you may not be allowed to enter the U.S. Please also refer to your welcome letter that accompanied the I-20.  It is desirable that you arrive in time to attend Latitude Language’s Orientation before your classes begin. You will be held accountable for any absences you accrue if you fail to arrive before classes begin. Please note: If your plans change and you decide not to attend Latitude Language, let us know and we will cancel your I-20, which will help you avoid problems in the future. If you wish to defer your admission to a later date, please contact us for approval and important instructions.  

If you are coming from Orlando Executive Airport (MCO) or Sanford International Airport (SFB) you can book a shuttle or coordinate transportation with Uber or Lyft.

Health care and health insurance are expensive in the United States. Even what you think is a simple visit to the doctor can quickly cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. Unexpected high medical costs might prevent students from being able to afford remaining in the US for study. Therefore, Latitude Language urges all students to obtain some form of valid health insurance. Typically student health insurance policies from the student’s home country, valid in the US, are the most affordable. Latitude Language does not recommend a specific amount, but it is a good idea to exchange currency for U.S. dollars before your departure or at the airport in which you are arriving. However, you should not carry large amounts of cash.  Most convenience stores, gas stations and grocery stores have “pre-pay debit/credit cards”.  You pay cash to the store and they apply the balance to a US Visa or Mastercard credit card for you to use.  Included in your Latitude Language Handbook will be instructions as to how to open a US bank account once you have arrived.  

To earn a Certificate of Completion and advance to the next level the following must be achieved:

1) have an overall semester proficiency GPA of 2.0 (75%), a “B” or higher;

2) take the placement tests (computer, written and oral) and reach the benchmark scores for the next level; and

3) receive recommendations from three Instructors regarding your ability and attitude in the previous semester classes.

YES! Every week we updated our list of social, recreational and community volunteer events that you are encouraged to participate in.  Many activities are free!  Each month Latitude Language hosts it’s own organized events to promote group practice and immersion into the community with local, native English speakers.

Latitude Language usually averages 10-15 per class. Our language learners come from every corner of the globe, and nationalities vary from semester to semester. You may or may not have other people in class that speak your language, but we require our students to speak only English in class and encourage everyone to speak English outside of class as much as possible in order to maximize the speed and efficacy of classroom learning.

F1 visa holders must take a minimum of 18 hours per week of classroom instruction in-person at one of Latitude Language’s centers. Other visa holders may have restrictions on how many hours they can take by law.

That depends on what level you start at when you first arrive and your target proficiency goal. Our terms are 8 weeks so once your current level is established we will assist you in calculating the estimated amount of time if would take to reach your goals.   For example, if you start at a level 3, you should be able to complete our TOEFL/IELTS test preparation classes within 1 year and have received the necessary coaching to prepare you for many college undergraduate programs and successful entrance test scores. If your goal is to improve proficiency in your professional career we need to evaluate your industry and the requirements for successful bilingual communication to give you an estimate of time.
